Todays walk in detail

01/09/2024

Hade Edge, Fairy Glen, Hepworth, Hullock Bank, Cheese Gate Nab.

Well the weather didn't look good driving towards the start point, foggy (what?!) and steady drizzle on the windscreen. However, we set off on the walk with low cloud and mist which lasted throughout the walk though the visibility slowly improved. But it was dry! 16 of us set off down and into the Fairy Glen (not named on the O/S mapping, so this is what I call it) where we took an early "elevenses". Emerging out into the village of Hepworth (mentioned in the Domesday Book 1086) and past the Butchers Arms which featured regularly in Last of the Summer Wine. We dropped down even further before ascending Hullock Bank. At this point two of our members decided to turn back and a big thank you to Peter Miller for volunteering to navigate them safely back to the start point. So, 13 of us continued upward to High Brow and improving views over West Yorkshire. We walked through what looked liked someone's garden (well kept garden) but is probably a holiday home development. Then the tricky bit along a feint path overgrown with bracken - but we all made it! Lunch was taken at the view point at Cheese Gate Nab, with views. We then descended down to Barnside and back 'home' by Ox Lee Lane. Replenishment fluid was taken in the Bowshaw Trout
