Wentworth Walk

There were 21 of us on my walk starting from the Gun Park car park near Wentworth Woodhouse main entrance gate. It was a perfect summer's day for walking-  slight breeze and high clouds and the sun breaking through about 20 minutes into the walk. We made our way along  Cortworth Lane, turning left up past Cortworth Lodge, on to Street Lane then up to Hoober Stand. We stopped for a tea/coffee break there and enjoyed great views on this clear day. Then we made our way to Upper Haugh, zigzagged on fields and paths down to Nether Haugh. We took another break there, with views overlooking Greasbrough and the 3 dams - Mill Dam, Dog Kennel Pond and Morley Pond. Next stop, the Rockingham Mausoleum, then down the fields to the main path and a steady incline to the magnificent Wentworth Woodhouse 'Palladian' east front completed in 1743. We arrived back at the car park just after 1pm. Thanks to everyone who came along. Thanks for listening to my 'ramblings' about the local history and to Dave Craddock for back marking.
