Todays walk in detail

Rotherham to Sheffield Canal Basin.

19 intrepid souls met under clear skies at a very cold and suitably wintery New York stadium in Rotherham town centre. A low flying heron was a sign of a good walk to come as we set off along the canal from Rotherham to the Sheffield canal basin with the path being firm and generally mud free. The weather was crisp and paradoxically sunny and made all the more enjoyable for the lucky few walkers who caught a glimpse of a rather fine Kingfisher as we approached the impressive Tinsley flight where we took a well deserved coffee break. The new canal boat installation was enjoyed by all before continuing our walk into Sheffield. The trek was a rewarding but chilly 6.2 miles with refreshments being enjoyed at the Bankers Draft on Castle Square before returning to Rotherham on the very handy Tram/Train although one member did decide to make the return journey back along the canal path!
