Silverhill, Hardwick and Pleasley

Eleven ramblers set off from Teversal Trail Visitor Centre just as the sky began to clear. Our first objective was the top of Silverhill, the former colliery spoil heap that now stands as one of Nottinghamshire’s highest points. We paused at the summit to enjoy the views and take a closer look at the ‘Testing For Gas’ monument. We then retraced our steps into Teversal village and made our way across some very muddy fields to reach the Skegby Trail. The conditions were slippery, and after one rambler had a tumble and sustained an injury, he and two others decided to take a shortcut back to the starting point. The rest of the group continued along the trail towards Pleasley. After a brief coffee stop we skirted the edge of Pleasley Country Park and joined the Rowthorne Trail. Lunch was taken near the end of the trail before we continued into Hardwick Park, arriving just as the rain set in. We crossed a mix of fields and woodland to reach Hardwick Hall, then followed Lady Spencer’s Walk towards Norwood. To avoid more treacherous fields, we took a short detour along Norwood Lane and picked up the Teversal Trail for the final stretch back to the cars. We rounded off the walk with refreshments at The Shoulder at Hardstoft.
