On a lovely sunny morning, 24 of us set out initially along the Clowne Greenway which is part of the old Beighton railway branch line but is now a well surfaced track for walkers and cyclists between Staveley and Cresswell. After less than 1k, we left the track for a short section of road walking before picking up a bridleway to Elmton and then towards Oxcroft and along Damsbrook Lane to our break. We enjoyed good views to the west overlooking the small village of Shuttleworth. The walk continued along the ridge through a field of horses and back into Clowne along an urban track where we were greeted by the mayor! Not really. It was a local youth with a heavy" gold" chain around his neck. Refreshments were taken at the Old School Taphouse where we sat outside and took advantage of some interesting beers.
