Treeton Walk

On a beautiful, sunny day 29 of the walking group and 2 dogs set out from the road adjacent to Treeton cricket club. It was very much a contrast of the old and new, particularly in the early part of the walk where Orgreave and the Waverley area of development are placed almost side by side with the Advanced Manufacturing site in the background. Climbing a short hill we had a fine view of the expanse of water with Treeton and its church in the background. It was an ideal spot for a photoshoot which was duly taken. After this we walked along the top of the hill to the main road and continued alongside the housing estate, a detour necessitated by the closure of the footpath. We then crossed the railway line via the footbridge and made our way up the hill to Handsworth where our break was taken in the park from which we gained a fine view of the surrounding landscape. From Handsworth we took the path through the woodland before emerging next to the station of Woodhouse. From here we crossed the road, walked through the playing field and completed the journey back to Treeton. As ever the "Robin Hood" in Aughton provided us with welcome refreshments on a fine day in April'
