There were 17 walkers who set off from Youlgreave walking down the cobbled pathway to cross the river over the clapper bridge then up the steps at the other side. We then walked over fields to reach Long Dale. This looked stunning in June when I first did the recce as it was so colourful with all the wild flowers. Alas today everything was dried up and brown. We then continued to walk down Gratton Dale to reach Dale End. From there it was uphill on the road to reach the village of Elton where we had our lunch break on a hillside with a view to Robin Hood’s Stride in the distance. When we reached Robin Hood’s Stride two of our walkers scrambled to the top which gave time for the rest of us chance to catch our breath. We then continued on the Limestone Way back to Youlgreave.
Refreshments were taken at The Farmyard Inn in the village before making our way back to the cars. Thanks to walkers for attending and Roy for backmarking.
