Todays walk in detail

19/02/2026

Thorpe Salvin and Shireoaks Village.

20 of us set out from the Parish Oven pub in Thorpe Salvin having braved multiple roadworks and diversions to get there. It was wet as we walked along the Cuckoo Way beside the Chesterfield Canal. Many puddles and some mud. The level of murky water in the canal was pretty high and a torrent of water gushed down one of the by-weirs. The coffee stop was by a stream in Shireoaks. We then walked across a couple of fields and some road to walk (via a public pathway) through a farm with a view of the Sheffield Flying Club. More fields followed then along a road which wound it's way back to Thorpe Salvin where most of us had a refreshment in the pub. Thanks to all for turning up and especially to Steve for back-marking.
