Todays walk in detail

35 members and 3 dogs left Kiveton Water heading past the local fishing ponds to the stone artworks where a memorial lies remembering local mineworkers.  We ascended up a zig zag path to a further sculpture of a pit pony called Dreaming of Sky and the first of a number of views.  We then progressed on a grassy track around the hillock before descending to the base of the hill.  From here we followed grass tracks and footpaths towards Harthill.  From Harthill village we followed further fields and the outskirts of a wood full of bluebells, followed by a refreshment break at Packman Lane at the entrance to Loscar Wood. After break we made our way across a farm field taking the road into the village of Thorpe Salvin.  After viewing the ruins of Thorpe Hall, we continued on the lane towards the footpath for Chesterfield Canal.  We headed back to Kiveton waters via Chesterfield Canal. Further refreshments were taken at the Parish Oven, Thorpe Salvin. Many thanks to the back markers, Shirley, Hazel, Sue and our middle Marshall Dave.
