Todays walk in detail

27 ramblers set off along a route starting at the Timber Lane car park on the Five Pits Trail near Pilsley. After a short stretch along the Five Pits Trail we headed towards Astwith along some very overgrown footpaths that became much less overgrown after we’d all trod through it and trampled everything down. From the little village of Astwith we crossed more fields, passed under the M1 and arrived at Hardwick Ponds for our coffee break. After our break we walked up through the woods and along the lane in Hardwick Estate, received some curious interest from a herd of cows and arrived in the village of Stainsby. We then returned to the car park, via more fields, Holmewood woodlands and the Five Pits Trail. 6.5 miles and quite a few stiles. Refreshments were taken at The Shoulder at Hardstoft.
