Todays walk in detail

Eighteen walkers set off from High Street, Apperknowle, for a 5.5 mile walk. We headed to Troway via Greenside Farm, taking in occasional views over the Moss Valley towards Sheffield. From Troway we crossed fields and followed a wide woodland path to reach a lane towards Coal Aston. After a coffee break we skirted the edge of Coal Aston to reach Frith Wood, descending through the wood to pick up an old track back up towards Apperknowle, now so completely enclosed in vegetation that it forms a green tunnel. A stretch of country lanes, with views over the Drone Valley towards Chesterfield, brought us back to the start. Refreshments were taken at the surprisingly popular Traveller's Rest.
