Three Reservoirs Walk

19 people turned up  at Langsett Barn Car Park, on a bright, sunny morning, ready to set off on the 3 Reservoirs walk. Taking in great views on the way, we arrived at Underbank Reservoir. After climbing two hills, we arrived at Midhope Reservoir. Fortunately, the tall trees had been replaced by saplings, revealing splendid views of the water.
Thankyou to all who came on the walk, making the day so enjoyable and thanks to Ann who volunteered to be back the marker.
The Wortley Social Club was a welcome ending to a lovely day out.

Thurcroft - Brampton Le Morthen.

Thanks to the 24 walkers and a lovely baby, who had a nice sunny walk for the Wickersley walking festival, the weather was dry, the mud still isn't !  The walk was from Winthrop gardens Wickersley and took us across the fields to Morthern and then on to Brampton en le Morthern where we had a snack and coffee break.  The walk then continued across some almost ankle deep mud accompanied by lots of laughter and across fields to the bottom of Thurcroft.  After we 'paraded' through the village in our mud spattered trousers we headed towards Newhall Grange before turning off and crossing the motorway on a farmers bridge and back across the fields to Winthrop.  A very enjoyable 6.1 miles.

Thanks again to our two back markers Dave and Phil for keeping the group safe.

Hodsock, Carlton in Lindrick

Eighteen walkers arrived at the allotted meeting point.
Raining hard when we arrived at the car park but by the time we set off it had cleared. The rest of the day was sunny and windy. We walked passed Hodsock Priory to
Carlton in Lindrick where a break was taken in the Park. We continued through the village to the church then over fields and through a very muddy wood to our lunch stop.
More muddy tracks took us back to Langold Lake where we ended walking around the Lake back to the car park. Refreshments were taken at The Royal Legion, Langold .

Pinchmill - Brecks - Listerdale - Church Field - Wickersley wood.

This walk was the first of the Wickersley Walking Festival and 35 walkers including 10 non club members assembled in the Winthrop car park. We eventually set off up second lane and across Morthen Road on our way to Pinchmill. Single file was strictly adhered to along the unpaved road to Cowrakes Lane and then on a path by the houses to eventual cross the road before Worrygoose Roundabout. It was here 2 walkers left us due to tiredness to take the bus back. We had a much needed drink stop for 10 minutes and then progressed by Sitwell Golf Club to slither and slide on muddy field paths to reach the wood at the top of Wickersley Gorse. Threading our way off Sorby Way we arrived at Wickersley Church and then through the wood back to Winthrop where refreshments were taken.  Although it was a fine day there was much mud, glorious mud. Thanks to the four Marshals John, Sandra, Dave and Mike.
It was remarked on that this walk on all the publicity for the Walking Festival was classed as medium level, in error, when it should have been the hardest level.

Moscar, Stanage, Bamford Moor

Despite the promising weather forecast, we awoke to fog/heavy mist, which persisted for the first half of the walk. Clocks had 'sprung' forward an hour overnight but nevertheless, 22 of us set off from Cutthroat Bridge. We headed toward Derwent Edge and then veered off at Whinstone Lee Tor heading for Moscar Lodge. There were some fantastic views along this section, unfortunately the mist persisted and we couldn't see any of them!

We crossed the road and onto the Stanage Edge path, then we joined the lower path. Just below Crow Stones we headed directly across Bamford Moor. It was just a little bit wet underfoot, but was navigated successfully, then onto Bamford Edge amongst crowds of people (yes crowds), a good proportion of whom seemed to be foreign students. It seems to have become very popular for sightseeing.

We found a reasonably quiet spot overlooking Ladybower Reservoir. The sun was shining and the views fantastic; it was here we said our last goodbye to Professor Graham Bailey. Graham had been a long term member of both our club and Rotherham Metro and at the request of his daughter Karen, Margaret scattered some of his ashes as we said our final farewell.

Roche Abbey Circular

The Roche Abbey Circular was well supported, 20 people and one dog taking part. The weather was fine at the start and stayed fine for the duration of the walk. The route involved walking through the churchyard and then a short steady climb to Hooton Levitt. From there we followed the path to Roche Abbey, which involved a very boggy section but everyone negotiated it without mishap. After a coffee break in the abbey gatehouse the route back to Maltby was via the Norwoods. Refreshment was taken in the Queens
